Montezuma Oropendola

Montezuma Oropendola

An interesting Midlle American (from South Mexico to Northern South America) bird. While females usually perch on tiny branches and eat insects, males perch on thick branches and feed on parasite plants or large fruit. The males you see in the photograph is amost as bigger as the double size of the females. So they feel responsbile for defending the females in their territory, which give them a special right to mate with the females. When they leave the territory for a reason their competitives capture the territory and fight for the special right. It is a kind of characteristics that mammals have in animal kingdom. Isn't that strange?
